FAQ

IS IT KITTY CLOGS SWEDEN OR KIT + CLOGS STUDIO?

Our legal business name changed in 2021 to KIT + CLOGS STUDIO Ltd. As our business grew we decided we needed a name change: first, we began to incorporate items other than traditionally-made Swedish clogs in our collections. Secondly, and most exciting, we began the production of our modern, flex-base clogs here in the UK. These changes necessitated our brand name and identity evolve with us. But don't worry, we still design and make the same high-quality clogs, with many of the same "kitty clogs" we've stocked since 2016 remaining in our current collection. Check out our flex base clogs and our clothing and lifestyle collections for more sustainable and handmade "kit" for conscious living.

For now you can still find us at www.kittyclogssweden.co.uk but our main web address has now changed to: www.kitandclogsstudio.co.uk.

WHAT ARE YOUR SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES?

We're glad you asked :-) Sustainability is our highest priority and at the centre of everything we do as a business and a brand. We are by no means perfect but we are always looking for ways to improve our practices to minimise environmental impact and waste:

/ Our wooden bases are made by hand using only wood sourced from controlled FSC certified forests. Any bases that are cut but can't be used go back into the heating and running of the workshop.

/ The rubber for our new flex-base clogs is made from 100% recycled rubber: 80% recycled TPU and 20% recycled PET.

/ Our leather is organic vegetable-tanned, bi-product leather sourced from an Italian family business currently in its fourth generation. As one of the founding members of the Pelle Vegetale Consortium, environmental regulations are at the core of everything they do. You can find the full set of regulations here: www.pellealvegetale.it/en/sustainability/.

/ We use only recyclable packaging derived from paper and card and everything is re-used where possible and recycled when not. We try to be as plastic-free in the studio as possible and we are working hard to find creative and sustainable alternatives all the time.

/ We have two seasons per year with two collections: a warmer weather collection and a cooler weather collection. We try to only produce what we know will sell to reduce waste and environmental impact caused by production and shipping. We are led totally by you, our wonderful customers and followers, as to what to produce. Because we don't overproduce, not everything on our website is always in stock so there may be a wait time for certain styles. You can help us to know what you're looking for by adding your email to the box that pops up when you choose an out of stock size. We don't use these emails for anything else.

/ We try to provide as much information to our customers as we can so that we limit returns that are costly to you and the environment. If you can't find what you're looking for online we are always happy to answer your questions - drop us an email!

DO YOU HAVE ANY VEGAN LEATHERS?

Not currently but this is absolutely on our to do list! We haven’t yet found an affordable, suitable and environmentally friendly alternative to our natural leather. To make clogs you need a specific thickness, strength and behaviour of material because of the strain between the upper and the wooden base and because we wet mould the uppers. Any suitable alternatives we’ve found are either unaffordable, made using plastic or are not suitable for making clogs because of the way the material needs to behave. We have massive respect for our vegan friends and hope to be able to offer something amazing in the near future. In the meantime all of our clogs are made using sustainably sourced, organic vegetable-dyed leathers that are a bi-product of the food industry and they are built to last to minimise environmental impact.

DO YOU SELL MEN'S CLOGS OR LARGER SIZES?

At the moment most of our collection is available in sizes 36-41 with our Mid Dansare going up to a size 42 and our Cumin Low Klassisk in sizes 36-46. At the moment we don't have the tools and patterns to make larger sizes across the majority of the collection which is why we don't currently stock bigger sizes.

In recent years we've been getting more requests for larger sizes which is exciting because it means our audience is growing! Thanks everyone! We want to be more accessible, more inclusive and less gendered as our little business grows and moves forward.

Expanding our collection requires a lot of time and money. We have to design, sample and test all new styles and sizes. Once we're happy with the shape and fit we then have to make patterns, grade them into all the different sizes and get tools made for production. There is always a high minimum order for new tools so we need to make sure we can support this investment.

We're led by you as to what to make. Whenever we bring out a new style we have to do so slowly in order to gauge your response to it and then produce it accordingly.

At the moment we can't currently invest in the design, set up and tooling for sizes 36-46 across the whole range. It's too costly and truthfully, as such a small team, at the moment we just don't have the time to do the work involved either! :-)

What we do have is the tools and patterns to make sizes 42-46 on a traditional 50mm low heel base in our bestselling style: The Low Klassisk. The 50mm base used to be our low heel standard before we designed the slightly lower 30mm base. Our Cumin Low Klassisk is now available in sizes 42-46 on this base.

We are gauging the reaction to this larger size range and will move forwards accordingly. We hope to soon have a wider size range across the collection. We hope that you understand why we have to be considered in the way we move forwards as a small business :-) We try to only produce what we know will sell: this reduces waste and environmental impact and is better for you and us and the planet.

If you haven't been able to find your size in our current collection, we hope to have the clogs of your dreams for you one day very soon!

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE CUMIN LEATHER AND THE CUMIN (ORIGINAL) LEATHER?

We’ve updated and upgraded our best-selling, original Cumin leather to a “pull up” leather in the same shade. This kind of leather is treated slightly differently to our other organic, vegetable tanned leathers giving it a unique finish that begins to develop a beautiful patina from day one.

Both the new and Cumin (original) are currently available online but we are slowly phasing out the original leather in favour of the new one.

Pull Up leather is dyed with a soluble dye that enhances rather than conceals the leather’s natural surface. The colour is sealed with a natural oil rather than covered or coated so it migrates during the wet moulding process giving the final appearance a mottled, almost antique look. The leather stays buttery soft. Scuffs and scratches blend and become a part of the story of the leather so, with time and wear, the surface will evolve and change to be totally unique to you.

DO YOU STILL TAKE BESPOKE ORDERS FOR BRIDES?

We have suspended our made-to-order bridal collection for the time being. It can be very time consuming to make a single pair of clogs in a style and colour outside of our current collection. At the moment, with high demand across the rest of our collection, our workshop can't support bespoke orders. We're so sorry for any disappointment caused! You can find our ready-to-wear picks for brides here. You can find bridal style inspiration in our lookbook here. And do subscribe to our newsletter to be the first to know when we can offer bespoke orders again.
